As we...This is a brilliant initiative — go for it!

As well as this kind of connecting people-to-people thing, we can also create big differences by changes in infrastructure — sometimes tiny changes can make a massive difference . . . especially ones that show connections in the real, physical world.

Here's a small example: Imagine there were a London Underground-style A4 Brum bus map as freely available as the tube map. Add in a map at every bus-stop showing how far you could get by walking 5, 10, 15 minutes, jsut as they do at London bus-stops.

What impact would that have on us all? I'd wager more of us would be walking (and people on streets means people feel safe out and about), and more of us would be visiting parts of the city we wouldn't otherwise get to.

We need new thinking — and some of it, perhaps much of it, lies in the new sciences of networks, small worlds, all that stuff.Kate Cooperhttp://newoptimists.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6009380563976591550.post-57598643004731724192012-02-19T19:58:29.150+00:002012-02-19T19:58:29.150+00:00Great work all!
